Pietro Bulgarelli, CCR, born in Costa Rica in 1986, graduated as a cinematographer in Buenos Aires at the Argentina Film Industry Union’s Professional Training Center (CFP-SICA). During his twelve-year career as a director of photography he shot numerous short films, advertisement campaigns, documentaries, and feature films. He worked in North and South America as well as in Europe, Africa, and Asia. In addition to working as a DOP he has also written and directed several short movies, exploring the narrative and formal possibilities of film language through both digital and analog formats.
His short film “The Thread” won the Special Jury Award at Costa Rica Festival Internacional de Cine (CRFIC) and Festival Internacional de VideoArte (FIVA). His work has been screened at festivals such as the Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata, Festival Internacional de Cine de Valdivia, Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, International Film Festival Message to Man, St. Petersburg, and the Ann Arbor Film Festival. Pietro is a founding member and current vice-president of the Costa Rican Society of Cinematographers.
